Continuing their year of activity, outings and public exposure, the V.I.B.E program paid a visit to the radio station of Power 99 and sat in on the “HOT BOYZ” radio show. The boys got to see first hand everything it takes to broadcast a live radio show. They were shown the databases of music, the programming equipment and the FCC representative that makes sure everything stays within federal regulations. The boys also got a chance to test their articulation and diction by being the guest DJ’s for the evening and introducing the songs on the radio stations countdown.
The boys were also encouraged and motivated from the numerous calls they got from family, friends and mentors who were listening to the show and calling or texting the boys to tell them how great they sounded and how well a job they were doing. There was even a call from some of their fellow classmates wondering what they could be doing to become a part of the group.
Off the air the boys were engaged in a discussion of hip-hop music, its history, development and gradual progression from street corner entertainment to the multi-million dollar industry it is today. They got to hear some of their favorite songs, and then were played the songs that their current hits were sampled and evolved from. Not to be outdone, some of the parent chaperones added their perspectives, opinions and memories to the conversation to make the whole evening a resounding success with a personal touch.
At the end of the visit the boys got a chance to take pictures with the radio personalities and even got a commitment for the “HOT BOYZ” to come and visit V.I.B.E back at the school itself. Once again V.I.B.E, along with its parental and community supporters showed what could be done with a well supported group of boys and folks who believe in them. Better be on the lookout, they may just appear on your television screens next.
