Michelle Obama Visits ASD

A C.A.L.M Afternoon "VIBE" with Michelle Obama!

In a year where “change” has become a buzz word so noteworthy that’s it's becoming a catalyst for politicians as well as people abroad, it’s no surprise to find The C.A.L.M Society and the V.I.B.E (Voices Involved in promoting Black Excellence) program at the forefront of these types of venues. With that being said, it seems quite befitting that two groups so intertwined in change and making things better for the whole were center stage when potential first lady Michelle Obama paid a visit to the Montgomery County area, most specifically,   Abington Senior High School, house of the V.I.B.E program.

Due to the fact that The C.A.L.M Society founder, Andrea Trainer, is also on the school board for the Abington School district, it is no surprise that she encouraged as many V.I.B.E members to come adequately prepared for what could be a historic moment and once in a lifetime chance to meet the possible next first lady of the United States. The encouragement worked so well, that the members of the junior high school chapter of V.I.B.E dressed up also, which as luck would have it, made them stand out (along with their high school counterparts), in the crowd of standing room only supporters. This caught the eye of the school administration as well as the local television cameras and got the V.I.B.E members V.I.P seating at the event. V.I.B.E member Charles A. Wallace was also invited on behalf of the school to share the stage with Mrs. Obama as one of its student leaders.

Mrs. Andrea Trainer was also given the V.I.P treatment as a member of the local school board, but true to her unselfish form, Andrea also got the treatment bestowed upon her son Andre, fellow The C.A.L.M Society member Stacy Deshield and her husband Michael. Andrea also followed up the event with an interview on the local news stressing how momentous an occasion this was and how she hopes that the children who participated take away the importance of voting and the political process as a whole.

The C.A.L.M Society is always instrumental in the lives of the young men of V.I.B.E, and make sure every learning experience is both informative and fun. In staying with this tradition they made sure as many V.I.B.E participants as possible were involved in this history making event, and who knows one day it very well may be one of them coming back to their Alma Mater as the political candidate expressing the change they can impact upon the future, but if not they’ll always have this memory to motivate whatever changes they choose to make for their communities at large.
