It was a Saturday morning like any other except it was eight a.m. and several young people were under a basketball net waiting in anticipation for adults to send them off and running. To what you may ask? They were excited about cleaning their community Parks and Playgrounds! That’s right, The Young Men of V.I.B.E. (Voices Involved in promoting Black Excellence) along with C.A.L.M., United Neighbors, Parents and siblings donned their gloves, safety vests and trash bags then proceeded to do a beautiful job cleaning several blocks in the Willow Grove area.
Under the direction Of Commissioner Wayne Luker, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Carter and C.A.L.M’s Founder Andrea Trainer, young and old alike, swept, shoveled and removed every visible piece of debris they found. The bushes were combed, drains were cleaned and the children commented that they would be more aware of where they placed their trash in the future. Once they were finished cleaning, food was supplied by C.A.L.M’s President Traci Simmons and Commissioner Luker who were amazed at just how much the young people consumed.
Not to be outdone with working, a spirited game of basketball ensued and all in all it was a very successful morning with the teenagers wanting to repeat their efforts on a monthly basis in an effort to keep their community beautiful!
